S4 EP 6: Lisa Marie Platske – Become a Leader Worth Following

I like understanding what words mean. Value is about worth and importance. It’s a woman of great importance and significant worth. I see that innately in every woman.

There have been moments where I’ve found my value. It’s been multi layered. Growing up I had people who believed in me. Even though my dad left at six and I had six sets of stepparents, my mom and grandmother believed in me. There was a part of me that attached achievement with value.

When I got As, I was valuable. When there was a misstep, I wasn’t valued. So, I was enmeshed in achievement and getting it right.

I’ve had to separate achievement and excellence from perfection. Achievement is now more about innate value and worth and true sense of deserving.

Opening my own business and charging for services made me confront my value.

My background is in Federal Law Enforcement. I never dreamed of owning my own business. Law Enforcement was about structure and stability. Eighteen years ago, I opened my business with leadership training and retreats, coaching, and books. I knew I had values of freedom, fun and flexibility. I thought the business would give me the ability to structure my own time. I didn’t realize how many hats I’d be wearing and how little time I’d have.

Business is the greatest personal development journey. There were a lot of surprises. There were a series of choice points that got me here. Consistency and humility helped my business thrive.

I’ve written seven books. I host retreats. I have a summit every year. We’re still evolving.

I’d love Upside Thinking to be a movement. It’s about peace and ease and alleviating suffering for people who are not shining their light as bright as possible. I created the upside warrior course for people to also contribute philanthropically. Influence, income, relationships, wellbeing all over all important. I want that for everyone.

  • I used to think I wasn’t worth enough.
  • What was the #1 thing holding you back from becoming a woman
of value? My opinion of myself.
  • What’s the best advice you can give to a woman who wants to
become more empowered? Stand in front of the mirror and look at who you are and do it from a place of the love and compassion you’d show to the person you love the most.
  • What advice would you give to your younger self? It’s not that deep! There will be days when you get it wrong. As long as you have your heart in the right place and take accountability for your actions and make it right, it’s not that deep.
  • What’s something people get wrong about you? They mistake my kindness for weakness and I’ve lost my edge. When I’m direct, it means I don’t like them.
  • How would you like to be remembered? With love.
