What is a woman of value to you?

“We come to a stage in our lives when we realize the power was already in us, but we were looking for it outside of us. Our stories are waiting to be written, and we’re here to make a difference.”

Why did you decide to cover your hair?

I grew up in the Muslim faith, but I wasn’t religious. I found her faith in Athens, Ohio, in college. I wanted to observe modesty. The hair covering reminds me that I believe in something bigger than myself. As long as it doesn’t cause division. We are to be united is what I believe in.

Take us to an ‘aha’ moment when you discovered your value.

We go through dips and reclaim our value at different transitional times in our lives. I’m the youngest of three girls, and between me and my older sister, there are eight years. I knew I was the ‘pleasant surprise’. My mom tried to have an abortion with me. I have healed those wounds, so I can talk about it now. Listen to the podcast to hear this powerful story. [11:19]

What is your leadership style and how has it evolved over time?

I’ve been told I have a unique balance of the feminine and masculine energy. I’m an over-achiever and had to learn to tone down being a perfectionist and focus on the priorities (masculine energy). I balance it with flow (feminine energy). To me, ‘high performance’ is performing at levels that are meaningful and joyful to you, to do it with love. I lead with love and role model the way. If I’m out of alignment, I take a step back and ask myself if I’m getting enough water and exercise.

What are you creating in the world now?

In addition to my coaching practice, I’m currently working on an online summit to replace my live events. I’ll be bringing in some amazing speakers and add value. It will be live towards the end of the year.

How did the name of your business, Amplify Your Dreams, come about?

I was teaching English to a student from Brazil who told me he always wanted to be a soccer player, but his parents wanted him to study business and marketing. I blurted out, “You really have to amplify your dreams, not just do what your parents want. Do what you truly desire.” As soon as I blurted that out, I knew that was the name of the business!

“I want to be able to uplift, unite, and bring people together. I want to know that I’ve done my best throughout my journey.”
